How to Choose Massage Table Sheets for your Clinic

How to Choose Massage Table Sheets for your Clinic

Cotton flannel, microfiber, percale – so many different sheets to choose from. How do you know which one is best suited for your needs? In this detailed account, we walk you through the different fabrics, their varied qualities to help you choose better.

Massage sheets are a very important investment for your business, so choosing the right sheet is crucial. Most likely you will end up buying most of the different types of sheets and linens for your varied needs. As an RMT you still need to know the pros and cons of each one of them and understand the fabrics too.

Go Natural with 100% Cotton Flannel

Cotton sheets are soft and smooth and they feel natural. Flannel has a luxurious feel that retains heat, making them a great choice for winter months, especially in Canadian winters. Clients love them for their coziness and warmth, especially in air-conditioned spa rooms.

Flannel is a soft woven fabric, of various fineness and weight. Original Flannel fabric was made from carded wool or worsted yarn.

Flannel may be brushed to create extra softness, or remain unbrushed. BodyBest™ Flannel Sheets are double-brushed for added softness and reduced pilling.

Microfiber Sheets - Good Choice for Stain Resistance

Microfiber massage sheets are known for their high quality and stain resistance. They are made of ultra fine microfiber polyester yarn making them super soft, silky smooth, and breathable. Microfiber’s main edge over other massage sheets is its ability to withstand stains. The fibres are so finely woven that they become incredibly tight. This makes them very good at repelling stains, something that is a huge bonus for massage therapists and spa owners.

  • Soft, durable, and quiet
  • Lightweight, fast drying
  • Economical

Microfiber is widely known for its moisture resistance and durability, making these sheets an excellent choice for those seeking longevity in spas and clinics. Microfiber massage table sheets are long lasting compared to less expensive cotton sheets with low thread counts that tend to break down more easily with frequent washes. They are a great economical  solution for your spa, clinic, or portable massage tables.

Percale Sheets - A Little Background on the Fabric

What exactly are percale massage table sheets? The term “percale” actually refers to a type of weaving that produces both resilient, strong and long-wearing sheets. It uses a one-over and one-under weaving process that produces a crisscrossing lattice of threads. This results in a strong, and very tight pattern. Percale sheets are known for their crispness and durability.

Don’t confuse percale sheets with sateen – the latter also uses a similar weaving technique, that will produce a fabric that is smooth and luxurious, but not necessarily as durable as percale.

Our BodyBest™ Percale Sheets are woven with long fibre cotton threads, making them suitable for commercial laundry.

Percale - Best of Both Worlds - Cotton and Polyester

Percale blends are designed to bring the advantages of both the cotton and polyester fibre into one fabric. Percale sheets are cool and crisp, and resist pilling. They are breathable, moisture absorbent, tear-resistant, and wrinkle resistant.

BodyBest™ Percale Sheets are available in either 50/50 cotton/polyester blend or 60/40 cotton/polyester blend, depending on the sheet size. Both blends are incredibly smooth to the touch, and they look great on a freshly dressed table.

Are Percale Massage Table Sheets Good for your Spa?

Massage therapists are happy with percale massage sheets for their long-wearing strength, light feel and the perceived feeling of quality — most notably their crispness. They are an amazing choice for the summer months when a cooler spa experience is often required. Percale features a matte finish and a crisp, cool feel that improves with every wash. Its superior durability means it won’t pill over time. Lightweight and breathable, percale sheets are the sheets of choice for most clinic settings.

How to Choose a Thread Count?

180, 200, 400, 800, 1000 – so many thread counts! What’s the difference? Thread count has been the source of much confusion when shopping for sheets these days.

The weaving method used and the type and quality of material (cotton/polyester or both) have as much importance on the quality, feel and durability of sheets as does the thread count. Higher thread counts may increase the quality and original feel of your massage table linens. However, there is a point of diminishing returns. Most of us would be unable to tell the difference between a 600 thread count sheet and a 1000 thread count sheet. Higher thread counts may make your sheets feel softer, but not stronger. In fact, the opposite is often true.

The rule of thumb is to choose sheets with lower thread count for your spa. Oils, lotions, and gels wash out faster and easier from sheets with lower thread counts. Not only do your lubricants wash out easier and faster, critical drying time is reduced. Save the higher thread count sheets for home use.

All percale sheets have a minimum of 180 thread count. BodyBest Percale Massage Table Sheets are available in 180 to 250 thread count.

Disposable Sheets

Disposable sheets are quite handy for massages, especially when you are working with specialized massage oils. Some oil blends are thick and greasy and you will want to save your valuable non-disposable sheets from stubborn oil stains and residue build-up. Disposable sheets are hygienic too. Consider placing a disposable sheet on top of your fitted sheets to catch excess oils or fluids.
