Uses and Benefits of Dream Catchers

Dream Catchers are often called "Sacred Hoops". Dreamcatchers were traditionally used as talismans to protect sleeping people, often children, from bad dreams and nightmares. It is said that good dreams will pass through the webs and gently slide down the feathers comforting the sleepers.

Often being hungover cradles for protection from bad spirits.

How to Use your Dreamcatcher

Hang the dreamcatcher near the place where you sleep. Preferably above the sleeper from the ceiling or on the wall. Consider hanging it from a lampshade or bedpost. Historians believe dreamcatchers originated in the Ojibwa Nation.

During the pan-Indian movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Dream Catchers were adopted by a number of different Native American Nations in an effort to show solidarity as a group.

Dreamcatchers, dream catcher or "asabikeshiinh" is the inanimate form of the word for "spider", often handmade from willow branches, supporting a woven net or web. The dreamcatcher may also include sacred items such as certain feathers or beads incorporated into the woven web. The willow hoop is woven with string or sinew to replicate a spider's web.
