Citronella Essential Oil (Cymbopogon nardus) is extracted from a lemon-scented grass that is closely related to lemongrass and palmarosa. It is native to Sri Lanka. In traditional Sri Lankan medicine, the crushed leaves and stems of citronella grass were used to heal wounds and minor infections, as they are thought to have antiseptic properties.
Although it has many uses, Citronella Essential Oil is best known for its refreshing, insect-repelling scent. It is commonly used in combination with Cedarwood in commercial insect repellants, patio torches, and candles. Citronella Essential Oil is a natural insecticide, and its sharp citrus scent is highly effective in deterring insects.
In addition, use it as natural deodorant and as a treatment for oily skin and hair.
Blending Oils: Bergamot, Orange, Cedarwood, Geranium, Lemon, Lavender, and Pine
Avoid using Citronella Essential Oil in baths or for massage if you have sensitive skin or are allergic to grasses or pollens; it may produce a reaction if you suffer from hay fever. Always dilute appropriately before applying to the skin. Consult with your health-care practitioner before use if you are pregnant or taking medication.
